What Should I Do Before the Assessment Visit?
- Don’t put anything away! That is why I am coming to help you.
- Write down what your biggest frustrations are about the space
- What is the space currently used for?
- What members of the family use this space?
I hate to think of someone seeing my mess…
- This is what I do for a living! I have seen countless spaces that were once messy, but afterward were transformed into an organized and functional space.
- You are not in this alone. It is my primary goal to make you feel at ease and comfortable during the entire process. Believe it or not, I even try to make it a fun process for you!!
What will happen to the things that I don’t keep?
- I will recommend specific donations sites, consignment stores, and antique stores if you’d like your things donated or sold.
- Don’t worry about bringing them there yourself. I will haul away to 3 bags/boxes after each session.
- If you’d like your things donated on Craigslist, we will do that for you, too!
- For larger items, I will contact haul away services to come and pick up the items.
I have a hard time getting rid of things…
- We will never tell you that you must get rid of things other than obvious trash. You will make the ultimate decision if it should stay or go.
- I know, I have a hard time getting rid of things that I think there might be a possibility that I’ll use someday….when is someday, though? It’s not on the calendar! We will work through this together, by giving you guidelines and asking you questions to help you think about why you keep what you keep.
- It’s also important to know that the space you have is the space you have. If you have more things then fit into the space, it will be doable, but not as effective if you keep EVERYTHING.
- There is SO much FREEDOM in only keeping what you USE, NEED, and LOVE. How great will it be to open your closet doors, and LOVE everything you see!!
Will I need to buy a lot of organizing products?
- I am a firm believer that we’ll FIRST work with what you have. If we see that it is not as functional as it could be, I will pick up and deliver the products that I’ve recommended. I will stay within the budget you have given for the products.

Where do I even begin?
- The first step is easy—call Emily with Simplify with Smith. We’ll assess your situation and get you off to the right start with an organizing system that will work for you.
- We’ll pin point what part of your home or office the “hot spot” —or an area of clutter that drives you absolutely crazy. That’s where we’ll start!
Do I have to be present while the Organizer is working?
- It’s important for you to be there during the sorting and purging phase of the process. But once we have decided what will stay and what will be donated or brought elsewhere—I love having free reign to put everything away and have you come back to a transformed space (similar to those T.V. home makeover shows!).
- Ultimately it’s up to you if you’d like to stay through the entire session or tend to other activities and come back to the finished results.
